Garbage: The Revolution Starts at Home

This 45 minute documentary by Andrew Nisker recounts the experience of friends he persuaded to save their garbage for three months, and then shows us where it ends up. Garbage starts with our decision about what to buy so there are ways we can reduce what we use and need to re-cycle or put in the landfill. The film is a real eye-opener: brilliant, funny, and yes, at times, disgusting!

FOOD, INC

A compelling film about our nation's food industry. It opens your eyes to the overwhelming power of corporations on our food supply, health, environment and the lives of farmers, and industry workers. As the filmmaker explains, "We have bigger-breasted chickens, the perfect pork chop, herbicide-resistant soybean seeds, even tomatoes that won't go bad, but we also have new strains of E. coli-the harmful bacteria that causes illness for an estimated 73,000 Americans annually. We are riddled with widespread obesity, particularly among children, and an epidemic level of diabetes among adults."
The documentary includes interviews with Eric Schlosser (Fast Food Nation), Michael Pollan (The Omnivore's Dilemma, In Defense of Food: An Eater's Manifesto) and social entrepreneurs like Stonyfield's Gary Hirshberg and Polyface Farms' Joel Salatin. A must see.
